Only 5% of people look at their goals daily

Last year, after I identified my goals – the Big Five from the Dream Big Cheat Sheet, I did this neat little trick to stay focused. I put them on my phone. I gathered all my apps into categories and named those categories after my goals. Now I don’t have to remember to look at my goals because I see them whenever I pick up my phone, which is more than I’d like to admit.

My social media apps I named 1000 for the number of subscribers I wanted. That meant doubling my email list and I’ve since quadrupled it. Done.

Every time I went to check the weather I was reminded of my goal to go to Paris. My husband has been against taking our young children to Europe and wants to wait until they are older. But one day a small box arrived at our door with two wedding cookies inside and a save the date for his cousin’s wedding in Italy. So yes, we are going to Italy and France with our kids and tons of family in May. I’m so thrilled. Done.

My financial goal was huge. But I’ve wanted my husband to change jobs forever and that’s what the figure looks like to give us peace of mind. I’m glad I put it out there. We have a rental property that we had no intention of selling but our tenants gave us notice and the market had skyrocketed. When we moved out of that same house two years ago we had just come back to even after years of owing more than it was worth. That means between my business and the proceeds from the house my husband is able to start his own consulting business without feeling like we are taking a huge risk. Done.

I had more categories in there than I had goals. Although tempted to add in lots of extra goals instead I added words of encouragement as reminders. Ease to remind me not to make things hard. Streamline to encourage me to get rid of stuff and be more efficient with my time. Play to play with my kids, whenever they say what they like about me, it’s always that I play games with them, well that and cuddling.

The most interesting of the reminders was Be Seen. Being seen meant some really wonderful things like joining Selena Soo’s Publicity Mastermind, getting in front of the media, and making new connections. But it also meant being vulnerable and beginning to release the hold that “what other people think” has had over me. Even though being seen has been very uncomfortable I’m so grateful it was on the list because it’s been by far my biggest and most humbling teacher of the year.

So go for it, put your goals out there so you can see them every single day. You never know how the universe will support you. How easy some things will be and how others will take dedication and hard work. Plus, it can’t hurt to see your weight goal while you are in line at the coffee shop and the 1 million calorie ginger scone is calling your name.
