The title of this post is actually part of a larger quote from an essay written by E.M. Gray called “The Common Denominator of Success.” Screenshot 2015-01-29 17.23.34

“The successful person has the habit of doing the things that failures don’t like to do,” he observed. “They don’t like doing them either necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.

There comes a time when the slow and steady work of keeping commitments becomes more difficult and the feeling of “I’ve been working so hard, where are my results?” starts to creep in. Change is happening but it’s not noticeable yet. What is noticeable is the resistance to change.

We begin to not want to show up. We wonder if the commitments we set were actually the right ones. It’s the “I don’t want to do this anymore” syndrome. Even though they are the things that you said with clarity and purpose were important to you. They can be really hard and they may be things that you don’t really feel like doing.

How do you get through it? How do you act in alignment with success? According to Stephen R. Covey, it comes from having, “a purpose, a mission, a clear sense of direction and value, a burning “yes!” inside that makes it possible to say ‘no’ to other things.”

I don’t make a commitment to get up every morning at 5:30am or to write an ad funnel because it sounds like fun. I do it because I know my WHY. I am absolutely clear about why I want to accomplish what I’m out to accomplish and my question is – do you? Because if you are clear on that, and you keep it front and center, you WILL persevere. If you don’t, there is no better time than now to figure it out.
