Over the weekend I made a  vision board. I thought I was done when I laughed and realized the most important ingredient was missing. It was the word gratitude.

You see when Shauna and I starting planning our first retreat back in 2013 we were so excited about the idea of visioning. Both of us love to guide the journey inward and we spent most of our time mapping out the steps before you ever create a vision. We hoped that people would leave with a vision that lit them up from the inside out. What we did not expect was the overwhelming sense of gratitude that people had. The feeling of wanting to hug your friends and family and tell them how much you love them right now. That was puzzling.

What I would come to understand from continuing to do the work is that gratitude is the feeling you get when you are in alignment with the creative force within – the same place where your vision comes from. Gratitude and vision have become so intertwined in my own experience that I almost see them as two sides of the same coin. I like to create vision boards because I like having a picture of my potential in front of me. But the picture only comes to life through practice, and the practice is gratitude.

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”

~ Oprah Winfrey

So I put “gratitude changes everything” smack dab in the middle and smiled. Done!
