Every once in a while, it’s useful to pause and ask, How am I really doing?
Not just how things look on the outside, but how you feel on the inside. And most importantly, what are you doing well or is working? The reason is that if you are like most humans, it is probably glaringly obvious to you what is not working well, and what you are likely missing is the areas in which you have grown, made progress, or feel really good right now. So enter this exercise with that in mind.
I decided to do a life audit after a client mentioned it. I was instantly intrigued. I asked AI to help me create one, and together we refined the categories and questions. Since I often design reflection tools for others, this felt like a natural extension of my work.
Instead of answering in a doc, I had ChatGPT ask the questions one section at a time, track my answers, and score each area from 1–10. The process wasn’t perfect. It got off track or lost more than a few times. (Pro tip: it’s faster if you write your answers first, then feed them into AI for scoring.)
Here’s the twist:
Most of us fixate on what’s not working. But what if you spent just as much time with what is?
For me, that meant looking at the categories I scored highest in, relationships and spiritual connection, and realizing how much energy and intention I already pour into them. That clarity gave me momentum to approach the areas that feel harder (like financial health and well-being) from a grounded place, not a panicked one.
When I’m coaching, I often use the metaphor of interlocking gears. When one area feels stuck, we often obsess over it, trying to force it to move. But often, the best way to get unstuck is to put energy into the gears that are turning smoothly. That movement creates momentum, and momentum is what makes change easier, not harder.
So an example for me is to add some financial abundance meditations to the spiritual practices I already have in place and to connect with people I admire professionally because building relationships feels really good and easy for me.
So what is spinning freely and easily, and what feels more stuck? How can you borrow momentum in one area and add it to another?
If you want a framework to guide your own check-in, see the life audit questions below. A note on scoring. I liked using ChatGPT to read my answers and score each category because it was so fast. It gave me its reasoning for each score instantly, which I appreciated. However, I didn’t 100% agree with its assessment, and so if you use AI to make this process faster, I would encourage you to use it conversationally and as a point of reference, not as a fact.
