It all started with The Five Minute Journal. For most of this year I’ve had a daily commitment to write in my journal. I heard about The Five Minute Journal in a Tim Ferriss podcast on Mindfulness and I thought it sounded like it would make my journaling commitment easier so I ordered it. I already had the writing habit but I have to say I was kind of excited to get a journal that let me off the hook at 5 minutes. You can do almost anything for 5 minutes.
I was kind of blown away at how quickly and easily I got into the journal. The thing that was most surprising was that you actually have to journal twice a day. When I read that in the reviews I figured other people had to journal twice a day but I’d stick to once because seriously who wants to journal twice a day? But after I got it, I wanted to journal twice a day because of the accountability. In the beginning of the day I’d write what I wanted to get done and at the end of the day I wanted to look back and mark off that I’d done it.
This got me excited about adding daily accountability to our program and for the last two weeks I’ve been testing it out, meaning I’ve added a daily goal setting and check-in to my system, and the result is getting a ridiculous amount done in the tiniest increments. For example in the last two weeks, in addition to journaling twice a day, I’ve meditated for over 3 hours, I’ve exercised 10 times. I’ve spent 8 hours working on my next course, and I updated all of my personal and business finances. I did these things all in small daily bites while maintaining my regular work schedule and having plenty of time to spend with family and friends.
My plan is to roll this out in the fall but before i do that I want to make it as relevant to your needs as I can. I’ve listed out the goals that I set but yours could be totally different and it makes a difference in the way I design the program how you would want to use it. What I really want to know is, what daily actions would you commit to getting done if you knew you were being held accountable? I want to design this system for you to achieve your goals so your feedback is very important.
